Our Approach

We offer various counseling services and therapy methodologies
for children and families to heal, grow, and thrive.

Our Approach

The bedrock of the clinical work of Music City Family Therapy involves family systems, a therapeutic approach to working with children, adolescents, and individuals in the context of their interconnected family relationships. Family systems theory is a theory of human behavior that defines the family unit as a complex system in which members interact to influence each other’s behavior. Clinicians at Music City Family Therapy view the system as a whole rather than as individual parts.

Experiential Family Therapy

Our clinicians are uniquely trained in experiential family therapy, a type of therapy that uses active, multi-sensory tools, techniques, activities, and other methods to help clients heal from challenging past and present situations in their lives. Through the use of authenticity, empathy, humor, spontaneity, and personality, our therapists address issues in the family through the use of nature, role-playing, guided imagery, props and puppets, sand tray, play and expressive arts, music, drama, poetry, creative writing, story work, and other active engagement. Studies show that experiential activities provide more than 80% more meaningful gains than traditional talk therapy alone.

Mountain Method

“The summit is what drives us, but the climb itself is what matters.” – Conrad Anker

The Mountain Method is a whole family approach with a prescribed 3–6-month treatment timeline, moving through five phases:

  1. Base Camp and Mapping the Climb
  2. Gathering Essential Gear
  3. Addressing Avalanches
  4. Gaining Ground
  5. Summiting and Planting a Flag

Stacy’s model is built upon the integration of three counseling theories including systemic family therapy, attachment theory, and interpersonal neurobiology.  The Mountain Method clinicians will skillfully journey with your family as they combine our research-based framework with therapeutic techniques of metaphor, expressive arts, and play.

The Mountain Method addresses all types of disconnection and dysregulation that may have brought you to a place of hurt, frustration, or hopelessness.  Our treatment solution is to join with you in disrupting and repairing the roles, patterns, and behaviors that are maintaining the family being buried in emotional avalanches.

Together, we will help your family identify your mountain top goal, map the climb, and travel through whatever terrain may arise, until you arrive whole and clear to experience and communicate the deep love, respect, and connection every family member has been longing for.  While we cannot always live on the mountain top, our clinicians will ensure that you leave treatment with the map and tools you need to get back there whenever life gets slippery again.

We consider it an honor to join you on this trip to your individualized mountain top and look forward to hearing from you to begin your family’s trek today.
