Our Approach

Heal, Grow, and Thrive with Music City Family Therapy

Our Approach

The bedrock of the clinical work of Music City Family Therapy involves family systems, a therapeutic approach to working with children, adolescents, and individuals in the context of their interconnected family relationships. Family systems theory is a theory of human behavior that defines the family unit as a complex system in which members interact to influence each other’s behavior. Clinicians at Music City Family Therapy view the system as a whole rather than as individual parts.

Experiential Family Therapy

Our clinicians are uniquely trained in experiential family therapy, a type of therapy that uses active, multi-sensory tools, techniques, activities, and other methods to help clients heal from challenging past and present situations in their lives. Through the use of authenticity, empathy, humor, spontaneity, and personality, our therapists address issues in the family through the use of nature, role-playing, guided imagery, props and puppets, sand tray, play and expressive arts, music, drama, poetry, creative writing, story work, and other active engagement. Studies show that experiential activities provide more than 80% more meaningful gains than traditional talk therapy alone.

Mountain Method

The Mountain Method™ is family therapy with a “coaching edge”. With an emphasis on creativity, play, and expressive arts, our trained clinicians are the trusted guides, helping children, individuals, and families “climb their mountain” with a clear beginning, middle, and end.

This time-sensitive, 7-phase process takes a client on a relied-upon path from brokenness to healing, disconnection to connectedness, and from trauma and grief to a newfound wisdom. We look forward to being a part of your story.

Heal, Grow, & Thrive with Music City Family Therapy

The goals of experiential family therapy are restoring authentic attachment to self and others, promoting growth and change, improving open communication and healthy boundaries, solving family problems, improving self-expression and emotional literacy, recovering from disconnection and trauma, healing relational wounds, improving emotional closeness, understanding and handling special family situations, and gaining coping skills, re-starts, and healthy skill sets for creating a better functioning home environment. Our mission is to help children, individuals, and their families heal, grow, and thrive.
