Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy for Adults

Sometimes helping a child begins with helping a parent heal.

At Music City Family Therapy, much of our work begins with concern for a child. As we support the whole family, we sometimes discover that a loving parent is carrying unresolved trauma, depression, anxiety, grief, or painful life experiences that continue to affect their relationships, emotional well-being, and ability to feel fully present.

Those experiences do not make someone a bad parent. They make them human.

Sometimes the most meaningful way to support a child is helping the adults who love that child receive the care they need.

When appropriate, Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) may be recommended as one treatment option for an adult as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.

Our goal is never to promote one treatment.

Our goal is healthier people, stronger relationships, and more connected families.

Ketamine Is One Option—Not the Only Option

Every person’s story is different.

Some people benefit from traditional psychotherapy.

Others benefit from family therapy, psychiatric care, intensive trauma treatment, or other specialized services.

For carefully screened adults, ketamine-assisted psychotherapy may also be an appropriate option.

Every recommendation is individualized and based on what we believe will best support long-term healing.

When You’ve Worked Hard and Still Feel Stuck

Many adults who explore ketamine-assisted psychotherapy have already worked incredibly hard.

They’ve been to therapy.

They’ve taken medication.

They’ve read the books.

They’ve prayed.

They’ve done everything they know to do.

Yet they still feel stuck.

Sometimes the mind understands what happened…

…while the nervous system continues to respond as though the danger is still present.

For some adults, ketamine-assisted psychotherapy may provide an opportunity to approach difficult experiences with greater psychological flexibility, allowing therapeutic work to move forward in new ways.

The medicine may create an opportunity.

The therapy helps you make meaningful use of that opportunity.

Our Role

Music City Family Therapy provides the psychotherapy portion of ketamine-assisted psychotherapy.

Our therapists help clients:

Prepare emotionally before treatment
Clarify goals and intentions
Process the experience afterward
Integrate new insights into everyday life

Healing is not found in one experience.

Healing happens as new ways of thinking, relating, and responding become part of daily life.

How Medical Care Is Provided

Ketamine is a prescription medication and is prescribed and medically managed by a qualified medical provider.

Before participating in ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, each client must complete an independent medical evaluation to determine whether ketamine is appropriate and safe for them.

The medical provider is responsible for:

Determining medical eligibility
Prescribing the medication
Establishing the treatment protocol
Monitoring medical safety
Managing medication-related care

Music City Family Therapy does not prescribe ketamine or provide medical management.

Our role is to provide the psychotherapy portion of care, including preparation, therapeutic support, processing, and integration within our professional scope of practice.

Is Ketamine Right for Everyone?

No.

Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy is not appropriate for everyone.

Some clients are best served through traditional psychotherapy.

Others benefit from family therapy, couples therapy, psychiatric care, intensive trauma treatment, or other specialized services.

Our responsibility is not to recommend ketamine.

Our responsibility is to recommend the treatment approach that best supports each person’s goals, health, and long-term healing.

Why This Matters

When a parent begins healing, children often benefit too.

Parents become more emotionally available.

Relationships become less reactive.

Families begin creating new patterns of connection.

Sometimes helping a child begins with helping a parent heal.
